PROCEDURE DETAILS
Facelift procedures involve tightening the muscle layer in the face that sits deep under the skin as well as the skin itself over the top.
This can usually be done under local anaesthetic.
At the start of the procedure some fluid is injected with local anaesthetic to make the whole procedure painless. The incision then starts just in front of the ear, curving round the back of the ear and sometimes into the hair bearing scalp behind the ear too. Once the skin has been lifted the work begins on the muscle layer under the skin: this is where the real lifting effect is achieved. The muscle layer is lifted, trimmed, and then sewn back in a more youthful position. When this has been done, any excess skin is removed and the skin is gently stitched back together.
